Jacob Hadley was born in Chatham County, North Carolina on 14 July 1786. He was the son of Joseph Hadley (1745 - ??) and Mary Cashat (~1739-1794).
Jacob married his first cousin once removed, Ruth Hadley. Ruth was born 14 March 1791 in Chatham County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Simon Hadley (1765 - 1843) and Elizabeth Thompson (1770 - 1844). Jacob and Ruth had the following children:

Eunice: 13 September 1824 - 12 March 1895 11. Elias: 13 November 1826 - 11 May 1828 12. William: 1 October 1828 - 24 October 1916 13. Susanna: 30 September 1830 - 30 April 1904 14. Thomas: 28 February 1833 - 31 December 1881 Like several of this brothers and sisters, Jacob left North Carolina for Indiana, but apparently not until all his children were born. He settled in Parke County, Indiana. He was known as "Jockey Jake" because of his skill as a horse trainer and trader. Jacob died on 23 December 1878 in Indiana. He is believed to be buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Marshall, Parke County, Indiana. |
