Her husband Alexander, also known as Aleck or Dick, is standing. The children sitting on the porch are, from left, Alvin, Ona, Armer, and Nora. Two more daughters, Clara and Johnnie, were born later. Four other children died in infancy.

Mary Susan was the daughter of Jesse HADLEY (1812-1899) and Phebe (SMITH) HADLEY (1836-1915). She married Alexander HEFFERNAN on August 10, 1890.

In the late 1930's, Nora (HEFFERNAN) SMITH's husband Henry SMITH built a smaller home for Mary Susan and Aleck at 1118 Willow. By the early 1950's this section of Willow Street became a part of the newly constructed Treadaway Blvd., and the address became 1118 S. Treadaway. Sometime after Aleck's death in 1953, the smaller house was moved to 401 S. 25th, behind their daughter Johnnie's house, and Mary Susan lived there until her death in 1962. This house is no longer standing.
